Home Wi-Fi & Internet

Diagnose first.
Spend later — only on what fixes it.

Most “slow Wi-Fi” isn't actually the Wi-Fi. About two-thirds of the time, it's the modem, the channel, the position, or a device hogging the line. We diagnose first, then recommend — so you don't spend $400 on a mesh that wasn't the answer. Local Perth team, sister brand Cipher Connect for the connection itself.

Wi-Fi problems aren't emergencies — they're diagnoses

Sound familiar?

Eight things we hear most often from Perth households. Almost all of them have a fix that doesn't involve another monthly bill.

“Dead spots in half the house”
Modem in the study, kitchen too far. One AP doing the work of three. Usually fixed with placement, channel changes, or a small mesh — not a new plan.
“The kids hog all the bandwidth”
One Xbox can chew 200 Mbps. Modern routers let you cap, prioritise or schedule per-device. Two minutes of configuration usually solves a years-long argument.
“Work calls drop out in the home office”
Wi-Fi reach the office? Yes. Stable enough for video? Different question. We measure jitter and latency, not just bars on a phone.
“It's only slow in the evening”
Could be peak congestion on your NBN plan. Could be the neighbour's Wi-Fi flooding the channel. Could be Netflix updating. The diagnostic is straightforward.
“Is the modem the provider gave us any good?”
Usually adequate, occasionally awful. We can check yours against what's available, and tell you whether the upgrade is actually worth it or not.
“My plan keeps going up. Should I switch?”
Sometimes yes, sometimes the offer down the road is worse than it looks. We audit your current bill and tell you what your address can actually get.
“Guest Wi-Fi is the same as our Wi-Fi”
Means a tradie's phone has access to your printer, your TV and your laptop. A guest network takes 10 minutes to set up and seriously limits the damage if a device is compromised.
“NBN went down. I had no idea who to call”
Through Cipher Connect, we deal with NBN on your behalf. You call us, we call them, you get on with your evening.
What we cover

Wi-Fi & internet, sorted properly

Most jobs are one or two of these. We start with the diagnostic and recommend only what actually fixes the problem you came to us with.

Wi-Fi diagnostic & site survey
Heatmap of your actual house. Speeds, latency, channel congestion, interference. The honest first step before recommending anything.
Mesh Wi-Fi installations
Proper mesh design — not just plugging in three pods and hoping. Backhaul, channel separation, and clean roaming across a real Perth house.
Modem & router upgrades
Sometimes the answer's a $200 router, not a $400 mesh. We source, configure and install — with the new modem actually configured for your NBN type.
NBN plan audit & switch
Address-level review of what's actually available. We'll tell you whether the “upgrade” in your email is real, and whether Cipher Connect makes sense for your place.
Dead-spot & reach fixes
Concrete walls, double-brick, that mysterious dead zone in the garage. Targeted fixes (range extenders, second AP, hardwired link) for the rooms that need them.
Guest & family network setup
Separate Wi-Fi for guests, IoT devices, kids' gaming, work-from-home. Means a compromised device on one network can't reach the others.
Cabling & hardwiring
Ethernet to home offices, smart TVs, gaming setups. Sometimes the cleanest fix — especially for video calls and 4K streams.
NBN dispute & carrier liaison
When the line drops or speed isn't what you're paying for, we deal with NBN through Cipher Connect on your behalf. Reference numbers, follow-ups, the lot.
The principle

Diagnose first.
Then — only then — spend.

The internet sells you mesh systems, modem upgrades, plan changes, network extenders. Half the time, none of them are what your house actually needs. We start with a 30-minute diagnostic, tell you what's actually wrong, and recommend the smallest fix that solves it. Sometimes that's “move the modem to the hallway”, free.

  • Real measurements, not guesswork
  • Honest assessment of whether you actually need to spend
  • Fixed-price quote before any kit is bought
  • No commission on hardware brands — we just pick what fits
The usual approach

Throw money at the modem and hope

Most Wi-Fi “upgrades” happen without a diagnostic. The result is a more expensive plan, a more expensive modem, and the same dead spot in the bedroom.

  • Buy whatever the carrier is upselling this month
  • No measurement of what's actually wrong
  • Mesh installed by “the cabling guy” on autopilot defaults
  • Same family fighting over the same problem in 6 months
  • When NBN drops, you're on hold for 90 minutes
The Res-Q approach

Diagnose, design, fix the actual thing

Same problem, very different process. Often a smaller and cheaper fix than expected, with a clear answer about why it's the right one.

  • Site survey, signal map, real speed measurements
  • Plain-English explanation of what we found
  • Smallest fix that solves it — plus a quote, written down
  • Properly configured kit, documented for next time
  • NBN dispute? We handle the carrier conversation

Before any upgrade

What's actually available at your address?

Half the “upgrade your NBN!” emails apply to your address. Half don't. The truth lives in four places, and we check all of them before recommending a single thing.

Our principle
Address-level reality, not catalogue speed
The plan only matters if your line can deliver it.
01
Your connection type
FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, HFC, fixed wireless. Each has different best-case speeds and different upgrade paths. Yours is on public NBN records.
02
Your line's real performance
FTTN especially varies wildly by distance from the node. Your actual sync speed (not the plan speed) tells us what's possible without an upgrade.
03
Upgrade availability
NBN's free upgrade programs roll out by street. We check whether your address qualifies — sometimes the answer is “yes, today”.
04
What the Wi-Fi can deliver
A 1 Gbps NBN won't help if your Wi-Fi tops out at 200 Mbps. We measure both before recommending a change to either.

Why Res-Q for home Wi-Fi

Local team,
direct NBN access,
and zero hardware kickbacks

Most home Wi-Fi installers either come once and leave, or are tied to one product they're trying to upsell. Res-Q is your local Perth IT team — and Cipher Connect, our sister brand, gives us direct wholesale access to NBN. Same humans across the install, the dispute, and the “why is it slow tonight” phone call.

We measure before we recommend
Real site survey with real tools. We know what your house actually has before we suggest spending a cent on it.
NBN via Cipher Connect
Our telco arm gives us direct wholesale access. Same team handles the connection itself — no third-party retailer in the middle, no NBN queue for you.
No hardware kickbacks
We don't earn commission on the gear we recommend. If a $200 router solves your problem, that's what you'll hear — not a $1,200 system.
