A different setting

No workplace IT team behind you — so we step in.

At work, most people have an IT team in the background quietly keeping things safe: filtering email, patching devices, locking accounts when something looks off. At home, that layer simply isn't there. Most cyber concerns Perth households raise come down to that gap — not to anything anyone did wrong.

When you call Res-Q IT, you get a real Perth technician who has worked through these exact situations many times. We focus on prevention, give practical next steps, and stay calm whether you're setting things up properly for the first time or sorting something that's already happened.

  • Real people — not a hotline reading from a script
  • Calm and patient — plain English, no jargon, no rush
  • Practical next steps — what to do today and this week
  • Quiet follow-up — we check it stayed sorted

What we help households with

Eight ways we help — calmly, clearly, properly

Prevention so the common problems don't reach you. Recovery if something's already happened. And a real person to talk to either way.

Email hack recovery
Getting the account back, kicking out unauthorised access, recovering missing messages, checking what was sent — and locking it down so it doesn't happen again.
Scam response & reporting
What to do in the first hour, who to notify (your bank, ID services, Scamwatch), and what to expect next — without you having to figure it out alone.
Password & account setup
Setting up a password manager, turning on two-step protection where it actually matters, getting your important accounts on a safe footing — without overwhelm.
Device cleanup & check
If something was clicked or installed, we check the device for anything that shouldn't be there, and clean it up properly — confirmed, not assumed.
Family device safety
Practical settings for kids' devices, content filtering, time limits, app rules — at a level your household can actually manage day-to-day.
Identity & banking protection
If your details are out there — Medicare, licence, banking — we walk you through the right people to call and the right way to lock things down.
Safer browsing setup
Network-level blocks for known-bad sites, scam pop-ups and phishing destinations — protection that follows every device on the home Wi-Fi.
Ongoing watch (Protection Agent)
Optional: lightweight monitoring so we can spot a problem on your device before it grows. Calm, practical, no surveillance.

What Res-Q IT actually works through when you call

Cyber help isn't one phone call and done. Here's what we work through with you — calmly, in order, in plain English — whether you're setting things up or sorting something that's already happened.

1
What's actually the situation
We listen. We ask a few specific questions to figure out whether this is a setup job, a worry to check, a real compromise, or something else entirely. The framing matters.
2
What's been touched
We check which accounts, devices, or services are involved — email, banking apps, social, shopping, government services — and what they've been used for.
3
What needs attention now
Some things matter in the first hour (banking, primary email, identity). Some can wait. We sort them by priority so nothing important slips.
4
What can be locked down today
Password resets, kicking out unauthorised access, switching on two-step protection, securing the device. We do the bits we can do, and walk you through the bits only you can do.
5
Who else needs to know
Bank, telco, Scamwatch, ID services if relevant. We make sure the right people know, in the right order — so you're not making six calls blind.
6
What to set up for next time
Small, practical changes — not a lecture. The two or three prevention improvements that make the most difference for your household, set up while we're here.
Two ways we help

Some things we can sort without leaving the workshop. Others, we'll come to you.

We'll always recommend whichever option is simpler, faster and cheaper for you — not whichever is easier for us. Most jobs that don't need hands on a cable can be sorted remotely the same day.

Often the fastest

Remote support

A secure remote-control session — you watch what we're doing, you're in control of the keyboard if you want, and you end the session whenever. Most software, email, account, and Wi-Fi-config jobs are sorted this way.

  • No callout fee
  • Often same-hour, same-day
  • You see exactly what's happening
  • Easier than driving anywhere

When hands-on is needed

Onsite visit

For Wi-Fi dead zones that need an access point, smart-home installs, hardware swaps, recovery work after a break-in or water damage — we come to you. Most of greater Perth, by appointment.

  • Booked in for a time that suits
  • Tech arrives prepared (we ask the right questions first)
  • Clear pricing before any work starts
  • Tidy up after — no boxes left in your hallway

Real Perth households

Hear it from people we've actually helped

Two short stories from Perth households. Different setups — same approach: we explained things in plain English, told them what was urgent vs what could wait, and stayed until it was actually sorted.

After we've helped

No guesswork. No mystery. Plain-English close-out.

Once a job is done, you don't guess what happened. You get a clear summary — written down, in your inbox, in language you can actually use. Here's what it covers.

1
What happened
A plain description of what we believe occurred — based on what we found, not assumed.
2
What we found
The actual issues, account changes or device signs we checked and identified.
3
What we fixed
The specific actions we took today — what's been locked down, reset, removed or secured.
4
What's changed now
Why the same issue is less likely to repeat — the protection improvements that came from this.
5
What still needs attention
Honest about what's open — calls you might still need to make, or things we'll check next visit.
6
What we recommend next
The one or two practical steps worth doing — only the ones that genuinely help, not an upsell list.
No surprises

Clear pricing — before any work starts

Nothing kills trust faster than a bill you didn't see coming. We don't do that. Here's how it works:

1
Tell us what's happening
Call, email or use the form below. We listen, ask a few questions, and figure out what's likely involved.
2
We give you a likely cost
Before any work starts, you'll know the expected cost — remote rate, onsite rate, or fixed-price for common jobs. If it might end up bigger, we tell you up front.
3
If anything changes, you hear first
If we open the laptop and find something we didn't expect, we stop and call you. No "while we were at it" surprises.

Our technician was so IT savvy. He knew instantly what to do, in spite of my anxiety thinking I needed to explain. He even did a few necessary things for other equipment like the printer and landline without being asked. Well done Res-Q IT for employing such smart minds.

Common questions

Household cyber — answered

If your question isn't here, just call. There's no minimum, no commitment, and no question is daft.

Where do we even start if we want to be properly set up?

Most households start with a safety check — a quick look at the main accounts, the devices in use, the home Wi-Fi, and the backup setup. From there we'll suggest the two or three prevention improvements that would matter most for you. Usually it's a password manager, two-step protection on the important accounts, and safer-browsing at the network level. We set them up with you — no long shopping list, no upsell.

I think an account's been hacked. What should I do right now?

Don't click anything else suspicious, don't reply to anything, and call us. If banking details have been entered into a fake site or codes shared over the phone, call your bank first (they have 24/7 fraud lines) and then call us. We'll walk you through securing the account, checking for damage, getting back in if you're locked out, and tightening things up so it doesn't happen again. Don't be embarrassed — it genuinely happens to careful people.

Bank details were given to someone who called. Help?

Call your bank's fraud line first — they run 24 hours and can freeze the card or account immediately. Then call us. We'll help with the computer side: checking whether anything was installed, locking down email and identity accounts, and walking through reports to Scamwatch and (if relevant) ID services. The first hour matters but you're not alone.

A pop-up said my computer was infected. Should I call the number?

No. Those pop-ups are scams — they're trying to get you to call a fake "Microsoft support" number or click a link that installs remote-access software. Close the browser (or restart the computer if it won't close), don't call any number on the pop-up, and call us instead. If you already did call, or clicked, or let them onto the computer — call us right after and we'll sort it.

My email is sending spam to my contacts. What does that mean?

Usually means someone has access to the email account — either through a leaked password or because they're sending from a forged address that looks like yours. We can quickly tell which. If it's a real account compromise, we secure it, kick out other sessions, change the password properly, and turn on two-step protection. If it's spoofing, we explain what to tell your contacts.

Can you set up controls for kids' devices?

Yes. We can set up family-friendly controls at the network level (so they cover every device on the home Wi-Fi), plus per-device settings on phones, tablets and consoles. We don't lecture about parenting — we just set up the technical guardrails that match the rules you want for your household.

Do we actually need a password manager? It sounds complicated.

For most households, yes — it's one of the highest-value improvements you can make, and modern ones are genuinely simple. We'll set it up with you, walk you through it on the devices you use, and show one person in the household how to manage it. It takes the place of post-it notes and reused passwords — and it's safer than both.

What's "two-step" or "two-factor" protection? Do I need it on everything?

It's a second check when you sign in — usually a code in an app or by text. It stops most account hacks even if your password gets out. You don't need it on every site, but you do need it on the important ones: primary email, banking, myGov, government services, and the account you use to recover other passwords. We'll help you set it up where it actually matters.

What's included if I just want to be checked, not because anything went wrong?

A "safety check" usually means: a quick look at your main accounts, your devices, your home Wi-Fi setup, and your backup arrangement. We tell you the two or three improvements that would matter most for your situation — not a long list, just the ones that genuinely help. No pressure to do all of it, and no upsell.

How much does this cost?

Depends on what's involved — but you'll know the likely cost before any work starts. Most cyber-help jobs are charged by time (remote and onsite have different rates), with some fixed-price options for common things like an initial safety check. If something turns out bigger than expected, we stop and call you before adding to the bill. No surprises.
